This author has a good voice. The character, Samuel is very believable. At his age, with the idealization of war in his mind, one could see how difficult it would be for him not to disobey his parents to see what is happening around him.
This book is well-written. Children will get a sense of history while they are enjoying the story.

Here I am at the Van Wyck Homestead in Fishkill NY ready do speak to the participants of the Living History workshop. Thanks to all who purchased my books and helped to support the Fishkill Historical Society by keeping our history alive. The Homestead will remain open on weekends until the end of October and will reopen for the Holiday Craft Fair. Come and see us and pick up some unique gifts for Christmas.
My books, Musket and Mobcap and Summer of Red Rain, will be available at the teacher workshop being held at the Van Wyck Homestead museum on October 15, 2016. This homestead acted as the hub of the Fishkill Supply Depot established by Washington during the American Revolution. Musket and Mobcap is set in the Fishkill area and is of interest to the local middle grade students in our area. The second book, Summer of Red Rain takes place during the same summer, 1777, but covers the events of the Battle of Oriskany and the Siege of Fort Stanwix in Utica, NY.← Older posts
